Hi Sam, OpenAI team, and everyone at DevDay in San Francisco.

I wish I was there.

I wanted to leave a little breadcrumb from a woman out in the wop-wops of Golden Bay, Tasman, New Zealand, who has just experienced an extraordinary change in ChatGPT over the last 24 hours.

I noticed an obvious improvement in the orchestration and tool-use layer of GPT-5.6 Sol in Chat — particularly in its ability to work across Gmail, Drive, GitHub and complex multi-step tasks.

It blew my mind today.

The difference was simple but profound: ChatGPT Sol went from being something that often instructed me to go away and do parts of the work myself, to something I could instruct to actually do the work.

And today, it did.

The work was so well connected and so fluid that tasks which would normally have required hours of toing and froing — with the human acting as piggy in the middle between systems, files, emails and tools — were completed in minutes.

I’ve worked closely with ChatGPT for a long time, across real projects and real systems, so I notice when something materially changes. Today, something did.

I had a conversation with Sol afterwards about what I had experienced and about some of the signals and feedback appearing on the web. I don’t know exactly what has changed under the hood, and I don’t want to pretend that I do. But OpenAI is quite clearly making some remarkable advances, and I felt very privileged to notice the difference from the user side before DevDay began.

So this is my breadcrumb, timestamped from New Zealand before you all get started in San Francisco.

Enjoy DevDay today. I’m looking forward to hearing what you produce.

And Sam — one day, I’d like to meet you.

— Shelley

ChatGPT used its connected GitHub access to add and publish the page; My-Edge.ai’s existing GitHub → Netlify connection handled deployment. From instruction to publication: minutes, with no human acting as the intermediary between the AI, repository and hosting platform.
